Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event where participants form teams to solve real-world problems through innovative solutions, typically by building a prototype, app, or concept within a limited time frame.
Who can participate in the hackathon?
The hackathon is open to all engineering students, regardless of their academic background or experience level. Whether you’re into coding, design, hardware, or just passionate about solving problems, there’s a role for everyone!
Do I need a team to participate?
Yes. You can form a team of 1-4 members and register.
What should I bring to the hackathon?
Bring your laptop, chargers, any hardware you think might help, and most importantly, your creative energy! We’ll provide snacks and lunch on both the days of the hackathon.
Are the problem statements provided?
No specific problem statements will be provided during the hackathon. Instead, participants are expected to develop solutions based on the main theme: “Sustainable Livelihoods.” To guide your thinking, we have provided some sub-themes, but you have the freedom to identify and solve relevant challenges within these areas.
What happens if I don’t finish my project in time?
No worries! The goal of a hackathon is to explore ideas and showcase what you’ve created in the given time. Even if your project isn’t fully completed, you can still present your progress and prototype to the judges.
Will there be mentorship during the hackathon?
Yes! Mentors from the ComedKares Innovation Hub, Mysuru will be available to guide and assist teams throughout the event.
How will the projects be judged?
Projects will be judged based on innovation, creativity, feasibility, and the potential impact of the solution. Bonus points for those that align well with local or regional needs.
Is this an overnight event?
This is not an overnight hackathon. Day 1 will end at 6:30 PM, and participants can go home/their hostels/PGs for the night. The hackathon will resume on Day 2 at 9:30 AM and conclude by 1:30 PM.
Will accommodation be provided by the event organisers?
Unfortunately, no, but Mysuru offers plenty of affordable accommodation options. Since the event takes place right after Dussehra, there should be no shortage of available spaces at reasonable prices.
What’s included in the hackathon?
Your registration covers food (Snacks and Lunch), workspace, internet and mentorship to build your solution. You will not have access to materials in the centre though some basic resources and tools will be provided.
Can I work on an idea I already have?
Hackathons usually require you to start fresh. You can bring ideas, but the project work itself should be done during the hackathon timeframe.
How big can a team be?
Maximum of 4 members are allowed.
Do I have to pitch my idea at the end?
Yes! Each team will present their project to a panel of judges at the end of the hackathon.
